Content and Music Licensing

A licence to listen to music is not automatically a licence to place it in a video, brand campaign or advertisement. Clear every right needed for the intended use.

Music has multiple rights

A song may involve separate rights in the composition and lyrics, sound recording or master, performer, synchronisation, public performance or communication, and the artist's name, image or voice. One licence may not clear every layer.

A personal subscription to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube or another service is not a licence to synchronise its recording into an Aura video or advertisement.

Permitted sources

  • Aura's licensed library, when its licence covers Aura Arena, the relevant countries, audience, term and commercial or contest use.
  • Original, commissioned, royalty-free, stock, Creative Commons or brand-provided music when the exact licence covers the intended use and all attribution or other conditions are followed.
  • A user performance or cover only when the user has the required rights for the composition, lyrics, arrangement and recording.

High-risk sources

  • Audio copied or screen-recorded from streaming services, films, television, games, radio, another creator or an unauthorised download.
  • Samples, remixes, mashups, karaoke tracks, sound-alikes, AI-cloned voices or AI-generated music that imitates a protected artist or recording without permission.
  • Music used in an advertisement, paid media, product demo, contest winner, event, retail display, DOOH, television or influencer post without commercial rights.

Rights depend on the content type

  • Private attempt: you still need rights to upload and process the audio. Private visibility does not remove copyright obligations.
  • Public video: rights must cover public hosting and playback in the relevant territory and term.
  • Brand challenge: rights must cover commercial evaluation, brand review and the campaign's stated publication uses.
  • Winning AI advertisement: rights must cover synchronisation, paid and organic media, brand channels, edits, cut-downs, subtitles, territory, duration and whitelisting if used.
  • Aura promotion: Aura needs a separate licence or release for its own advertising, case studies, app-store materials or social channels.

Brand and creator obligations

Brands must provide rights-cleared assets or clearly state what participants may use. A brand must not ask users to copy an unlicensed commercial track, film clip, celebrity voice or competitor material.

Campaign terms must state who receives rights, what media and territory are covered, who pays for clearances and who handles later claims.

Creators must not represent that a track is cleared merely because another user supplied it.

Audio processing and takedown

Aura may transcode, normalise, fingerprint, mute, replace, clip, store and stream audio to operate the Services. Aura may request cue sheets, asset IDs, licences or composer information.

If a rights holder reports unauthorised music, Aura may mute or restrict audio while it investigates. A user may appeal with ownership, permission or exception evidence. Aura may preserve a restricted copy for audit or legal purposes.

Aura operator commitments

  • Maintain a rights register for every in-App music library and brand asset pack.
  • Record territory, term, media, audience, commercial scope, attribution, reporting and takedown requirements.
  • Prevent export or paid use where the licence does not permit it and run rights preflight checks for AI-ad contests.
